1998 Annual Meeting
LOCATION
The meeting will be held at the Cox Hall Ballroom (identifiable by its clock tower and # 28 in the linked map) on the campus of Emory University (see the Emory visitor's guide for more information) . For more information contact Kim Wallen (Phone: 404-727-4125; FAX 404-727-0372, kim@emory.edu).
Emory University is approximately 30 minutes from Hartsfield airport. A taxi from the airport costs approximately $30. The Atlanta Airport Shuttle (telephone: 404-524-3400) which can be found at Ground Transportation at the airport and does not require reservations costs $15. Public transportation is available by taking the MARTA subway system from the airport to the Lindbergh station ($1.50) and transferring to the # 6 bus (east-bound route) which goes directly to the Emory Campus and stops in front of both The Emory Inn and Woodruff Residential Center. Free parking is available for those staying at the Emory Inn.
HOUSING
Primary housing will be in air-conditioned student housing in the Woodruff Residential Center on the campus of Emory University ($27.50/night single; $21.50/night double). Reservations are made through the accompanying housing form. A small number of rooms have been reserved at the Emory Inn ($87.50/night, single or double). These should be reserved directly by calling the Emory Inn (telephone: 404-712-6565; FAX 404-712-6701).
ARRIVAL AND REGISTRATION
Registration will be held at the Woodruff Residential Center between 2PM and 7PM on Wednesday June 10th and in the foyer of the Cox Hall Ballroorm June 11th -13th before and in between scientific sessions.
REFUNDS
Requests for refunds will be honored until May 10, 1998. Requests after May 10, 1998 but before June 10, 1998 will be considered after the meeting and will depend upon the financial outcome. No requests for refunds will be considered after June 10, 1998.
OPENING RECEPTION
There will be a welcoming reception from 7 to 11 PM on June 10 at the Cox Hall Ballroom.
SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS
The sessions will be held from 8:30 AM until 5 PM in the Cox Hall Ballroom. Two poster sessions will be held at the Winship Ballroom of the Dobbs University Center.
Poster Boards
Poster boards are cork covered (eg no need to pound things inwith a hammer) and 4' high by 6' wide. They will be available all day prior to the 4:30 poster session.
MEALS
Coffee breaks will be provided during the meeting. Breakfast and lunch will be available through the meal plan. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the Emory campus and a wide variety of restaurants in the "intown" neighborhoods and in Buckhead that are a short taxi ride from Emory.
CONFERENCE DINNER
A "traditional" CRB style banquet will be held on Saturday June 13th and is included in the registration fee. Following the banquet music will be provided.
SPECIAL SOCIAL EVENT
The Atlanta Braves will be playing the Montreal Expos at 7:40 on Friday June 12th at Turner field more commonly known as the "TED". The TED is an improved version of Camden Yards that was built for the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic games and subsequently modified for baseball. Those interested in attending should purchase tickets ($14 each) with advance registration. A block of seats will be reserved for those attending the conference. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If the minimum number of seats required for obtaining a block are not purchased the cost of the tickets will be refunded.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Atlanta has a wide range of restaurants, bars, clubs and attractions accessible from the conference site. A list of recommended restaurants will be provided at the registration desk. Sites of interest include: MLK Center, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta Zoo, Carter Center, High Museum, SciTrek, Martha Mitchell House, Botanical Gardens, Centennial Olympic Park, Underground, Buckhead, Virginia Highlands.
