GENERAL INFORMATION
LOCATION AND HOUSING: Rooms have been reserved at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort in Scottsdale Arizona. This is the location of all meeting functions (sessions, posters, workshops, banquets, reception, etc.). You will be able to attend the entire meeting only a short walk from your room. The SBN Meeting will largely take over the entire resort. General sessions will be held in the large Grand Ballroom and poster sessions will be generously accommodated in the even larger adjacent room the hotel calls the Forum. Smaller rooms are reserved for other meetings and workshops. The hotel has two stories arranged around a central courtyard with two swimming pools, a putting green and attractive landscaping. The resort has many amenities (see under Housing), including several restaurants. A variety of meal options at different prices within the resort will be available throughout the meeting and all rooms have room service. The resort is also a short distance from downtown Scottsdale with many world-class dining, shopping and recreation options, all of which are available at off-season rates!
TRANSPORTATION Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport is 13 miles from the hotel, about a 20 minute drive. Transportation is available by the following means: 1) Hotel guests can use Transtyle, Inc. The fee is $25.00 one way for up to four hotel guests. It is strongly advised that you call 480-948-6131 for advance reservations as soon as you have your flight information (they will combine you with other passengers if you want). Otherwise, you can pick up the courtesy telephone marked "Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort" on the phone board located in the baggage claim area. This phone will connect you directly with Transtyle and they will arrange for pickup. However, they will be busy with those with advance reservations so it will take longer without advance reservations. 2) A private taxi will cost about $25.00 plus tip one way and they are available in all terminals outside baggage claim. 3) Supershuttle is available for about $10.00-$14.00 per passenger. It makes multiple stops and does accept advance reservations at 602-244-9000. 4) Car rentals are available at both the airport and through the concierge desk at the hotel.
Driving Directions from the airport: Follow signs at the airport for the 44th Street Exit (the East exit). Take 44th Street north (left) to Camelback Road. Turn east (right) on Camelback and follow to Scottsdale Road. Turn north (left) on Scottsdale Road and continue for about 1 mile. The Doubletree Resort is on the right (5401 N. Scottsdale Road) between Vista Road and Jackrabbit Road. See the hotel web site for further directions and maps.
CLIMATE AND ATTIRE: For your comfort, the meeting is contained entirely within the Doubletree Resort so that exposure to the local climate is entirely optional! At this time of year, the Phoenix metropolitan area is typically very hot and very dry. Average daily high temperature is 106°F (41°C) and average nightly low temperature is 81°F (27°C). Temperatures as high as 122°F (50°C) have occurred and temperatures of 115°F (46°C) are not uncommon at this time of year. To ensure everyone's comfort, attire for the conference will be casual. We suggest wearing a minimum of loose-fitting, all-cotton clothing at all times. However, sometimes indoor rooms can be chilly with the air conditioning running continuously, so an additional light layer, such as long pants and a light sweater, is also advisable. Southern Arizona experiences a late summer rainy season marked by intense thunderstorm activity that usually starts in mid-July. It is possible for this rainy season to start as early as mid-June, so keep in mind that rain is possible and check forecasts before you come.
REGISTRATION FORM AND FEES The meeting registration fee includes refreshments at the opening reception, and at morning and afternoon coffee breaks. The fee also covers the cost of one banquet ticket.

REFUNDS Requests for refunds will be honored until May 25th. Requests made after that date will be considered on an individual basis following the meeting.
RECEPTION AND REGISTRATION There will be an opening reception during the late afternoon and early evening on Wednesday, June 27th, around the pool at the Doubletree. Registration will take place during the reception. Registration will continue outside the Grand Ballroom from 8:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. on June 28, 29 and 30.
SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS Oral sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. in the hotel Grand Ballroom on June 28, 29, & 30. Three poster sessions will be held in the adjacent hotel Forum 4:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m on the same dates.
STUDENT PROGRAM
Several events and workshops are being planned by the Student Affairs Committee. Details will be posted soon.
POSTER BOARDS The boards are the traditional 4 feet high by 8 feet long with a display surface on each side. Poster session presenters may begin putting up their posters at 8:30 a.m. on the day of their presentation. Posters from one session must be taken down by 8:30 a.m. the following day.
ORAL PRESENTATIONS 35mm slide projection will be available at all sessions and a speaker ready room will be provided to practice talks and check slides. We are investigating the availability of computer projection and will post updates when we have further information. Those with other needs should contact the meeting organizers.
MEALS Morning and afternoon coffee breaks will be provided during the meeting. Options for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a variety of prices will be available in the hotel. There are many options, especially for dinners, within 3 miles of the hotel. A list will be provided with the registration materials.
CONFERENCE BANQUET A banquet dinner will be held the evening of the final meeting day (June 30th), from 8:00 p.m. through 12:00 Midnight at the hotel. Music will be provided following the banquet. The price of the banquet is included in the registration fee. Additional tickets are available for US$ 45 each.
