Monterey Bay SeaBird/Whale Trip: 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday June 25 . Depart by bus from Asilomar to the Monterey town pier where we will board the 100ft. vessel "Princess Monterey." Once aboard, we will cruise into some of the biologically richest waters in the United States, the deep water canyon of Monterey Bay, to observe its great diversity of seabirds, whale and dolphins, sea lions, otters and occasional sharks, schools of jellies and other interesting fauna and flora. Birds we are likely to see include 1 to 2 species of albatross, many shearwaters, storm petrels, alcids and the more common gulls, terns, cormorants and pelicans. Blue, Humpback and Minke whales are expected, Orca are possible and we will certainly see great schools of Common, Rissos, Bottlenose, Pacific White-sided and Northern Right-whale dolphins and California Sea Lions. We will likely see Dall's porpoises and Elephant seals. The ship will return to port at 5:00 and a bus will take us back to Asilomar. Bring binoculars and warm clothes. Box lunches will be provided by Asilomar, but food and drinks can be purchased on board. Naturalists will be on board to serve as guides.
